What To Expect
Expectations are a funny thing. Set them too high, and you’ll find your application
never satisfies. Too low, and nobody will bother with your product. With
BudgetSketch™ we aim to place control of your finances simply and squarely back in
your hands. You’ll learn to look forward, not back, and decide where your money
will go (not agonize about where its all gone). It’s high time to look forward to your
financial future. But first things first…
What Not To Expect
Simple. Anything that smacks of marketing debt‐creation tools (otherwise known as
credit cards), as a solution to your financial situation. You’ll never see an ad for a
loan or credit card in BudgetSketch. In fact, BudgetSketch was developed totally
debt free, by practicing the principles you’ll find within our application. At it’s core, it is our response to a system that compels us to spend it as fast as we make it, and to ignore sound planning in pursuit of the quick buzz.
Don’t expect easy solutions to complex financial situations. We believe by
fundamentally changing the way you approach your finances you will achieve the
financial freedom you desire, but make no mistake…it will take work on your part.
Don’t expect a magic formula to erase all your debt and pay off your house (though if
you know of one we’d love to take a look at it).
“More” does not equal “better.” BudgetSketch is about less (have we sold you yet?)
Where web applications and development is concerned, "less buttons, less flash, less
spinning icons" actually leads to a much “more” successful application. Funny how
the same logic applies to your finances. “More money” is not the solution to the
quest for a “better life.” Ask the man who makes a 100k and spends 105k if he's
happier than the one who makes 40k and spends 25k. Being in control of your
finances and knowing where you’re headed brings happiness in spades.
We also know talking finances with your significant other hasn’t historically been
high on the “enjoyment” scale (understatement of the year). That’s why
BudgetSketch was designed to be highly collaborative, meaning from opposite ends
of the globe (or living room) you can work with your significant other on mapping out what
your money will go towards. Our hope is that changing your financial behavior will
allow you to enjoy the money you earn.
One final note…don’t expect BudgetSketch to be your personal accounting software.
“Sketching” out where your money is going (budgeting) is the key to realizing the
financial dreams you have for yourself and your loved ones. Accounting is simply a
means to track how well your vision is being carried out. All too often personal
finance management (PFM) looks like tracking your expenses and balancing your
checkbook. That’s accounting, and all it’s going to do is keep you reflecting on the
past. Thankfully BudgetSketch gets you looking forward to your financial
future…literally.
